GLASS CLEANING

GLASS CLEANING

Why do people use newspaper to clean glass?

Newspaper is printed on special paper Called "newsprint." It is a cousin to paper towels, which weren't invented until much later. People found that newspaper cleaned glass better than a cloth rag, even if it had news ink on it. Actually, it works better than those towelettes that we have nowadays. To use newspaper for cleaning glass, use a weak solution of vinegar and water or ammonia and water. Spray the solution lightly on the glass, then wad the newspaper up and use like a paper towel. The glass will be much cleaner than you expect... and it's cheaper than window cleaner.

Does cleaning glass with newspaper scratch the glass?

No!!! Newspaper will not scratch glass.

Will glass scratch glass?

Yes, absolutely it does. Also there are different glasses with different hardnesses. Obviously harder glass will scratch softer glass and glass with the same hardness will also scratch.

Can cleaning glass with vinegar weaken the glass?

The vinegar will have no impact on the glass. Just make sure that there is no coating on the glass though ... it might get eaten away.

How can you get scratches out of your glasses?

Realistically, you don't. Theoretically they could be polished out, but that's quite difficult.

What gems can scratch glass?

Pretty much any gem that is sharpened can scratch glass, especially a diamond.
